ROOIBOS TEA 200g, loose
Carmién Tea: Where tradition and innovation merge in every cup
In 1998, the fascinating story of Carmién Tea emerged from an old farm shop on the historic Brakfontein estate, in the picturesque vicinity of the small town of Citrusdal. This idyllic property lies on the southern foothills of the stunning Cederberg Mountains in the Western Cape and is part of the Greater Cederberg Biodiversity Corridor.
The pioneer and current managing director, Mientjie Mouton, spent her childhood on a nearby rooibos farm before moving to the Brakfontein Estate, where rooibos was also grown. She recognized the enormous market potential of rooibos early on, and it is precisely this vision that shapes the Carmién brand today.
Since the deregulation of the rooibos industry in 1993, Carmién Tea has successfully established itself as a producer and supplier of high quality packaged rooibos tea products to retailers in South Africa. The processing not only extends to our own harvest, but also includes organic and conventional rooibos from first-class growing regions such as Piekenierskloof, Nieuwoudville, Wupperthal and Gifberg.
Farms not only form economic anchors in rural South Africa, but also forge strategic partnerships with like-minded commercial and fair trade producers. Together they support each other. This collaborative spirit led to the founding of Bergendal Farming Operations in 2006. This facility provides its partners with state-of-the-art rooibos drying, pasteurization and packaging equipment to further refine their rooibos harvest.
